hemp nature’s precious gift

Wednesday 18th May 2022

Have you heard about Hemp Seed Oil? You’re not alone. Nature’s nutrient-rich plant is receiving a lot of media attention, and rightly so. Pets can be treated successfully with hemp seed oil to improve their health and address many new and ongoing health issues, and in the correct dose, hemp can work beneficially for any animal you care for.

What is hemp?

Hemp is a lush, green plant packed with many beneficial nutrients, with some of the most potent properties concentrated in its seeds. Hemp seeds have a long tradition of medicinal use dating back to ancient times, first used in China to assist with pain relief (around 2800 BC).

Hemp seed oil, cold-pressed from hemp seeds, is one of nature’s most effective healers. In humans, it is used to treat symptoms of joint pain, anxiety, seizures, and cancer. Like us, our furry friends can also benefit from hemp seed oil supplementation.

Rich in essential fatty acids, complete amino acids, protein, fibre, and phytonutrients, hemp seed oil is an increasingly popular natural remedy for pets. It is recognised for its anti-inflammatory action and restorative powers.

Hemp Seed Oil

Many people consider Hemp seeds a superfood: highly nutritious and packed with healthy omega-3 and -6 fatty acids as well as providing an excellent source of protein, plus vitamins A, C, E and the B-group. The fatty acids in hemp seed oil are present as alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) and linoleic acid, and gamma-linolenic acid (both omega-6).

Not only is hemp seed oil the most potent plant source of these fatty acids, but they are present in an ideal ratio of 3:1 (omega-6 to omega-3), which optimises bioavailability and uptake of hemp seed oil’s nutrients by the body.

Start low, slowly increase.

Because hemp seed oil is plant-based, it is safe for your pets to take. You should start slowly, increase the dose as symptoms persist, and always follow the recommended dose for your pet’s size. Positive results can usually be seen in the first two weeks; the early signs are a bright and healthy coat, stronger nails, and clear white eyes. After two weeks, the bad breath can subside, and any anxiety, limb joint and muscle pain should improve. Over extended periods, owners should notice a significant improvement in their pet's physical behaviour right across to their mental state. This is especially noticeable in elderly pets. The science and clinical evidence from hemp research demonstrates that the non-psychoactive cannabinoids, polyphenols, and terpenes extracted from the hemp plant have potent healing properties. Being responsible pet owners ourselves, we hope this information helps determine if your pet may benefit from the natural healing properties of the hemp plant.
